On 14 August, Freeway Hostel will host a welcoming evening for a new group of short-term volunteers arriving in Mindya through the European Solidarity Corps.
The young people will come from Turkey, Armenia and Bulgaria and will stay in the village for up to 45 days. During their time in Mindya, they will experience a different rhythm of life—closer to nature, local people and the everyday realities of a small Bulgarian village.
The project encourages participants to step away from fast-paced digital routines and discover a more sustainable and conscious way of living. Volunteers will share daily responsibilities, take part in practical outdoor activities and contribute to improving common spaces through painting, building, creative work and other hands-on tasks. They will also support local initiatives and help organise community activities in Mindya.
The welcoming party will be the first opportunity for the new volunteers to meet local residents, members and friends of the organisation, and guests from Veliko Tarnovo. The evening will include:
- presentations of the participating countries and cultures;
- traditional and homemade food;
- short videos and stories;
- music from Turkey, Armenia and Bulgaria;
- informal conversations and time to get to know one another.
The project is not only about volunteering. It is also about learning to live together, becoming more independent, building friendships and discovering new perspectives. The programme combines meaningful practical work with cultural experiences, free time, travel and social activities such as movie nights, table tennis, karaoke and group gatherings.
Freeway Hostel will become one of the places where volunteers and local people can meet, share ideas and create memories together. With its garden, common spaces and informal atmosphere, it offers a natural setting for an evening dedicated to hospitality, cultural exchange and new beginnings.
Local residents, friends of the organisation and people from Veliko Tarnovo are warmly invited to join us.
