Every year on 6 May, people from Mindya and guests of the village gather at the historic area known as Cherkovishte to celebrate St George’s Day on 6th of May every year.
The day brings together local traditions, food, music and community life. A blessing of water opens the celebration, followed by a shared meal, folk performances and horo dancing in the meadow. Families, children, long-time residents and newer members of the village community all take part.
For guests staying at Freeway Hostel, the celebration is a chance to experience Mindya beyond the usual tourist route. It offers a closer look at the village’s traditions, stories and the way local people continue to gather around places with historical and spiritual meaning.
Freeway Hostel is located in the village and can be a convenient base for visitors who want to attend the celebration, explore Mindya and spend a few relaxed days in the area. Accommodation can be booked for the entire house, the group room or the two-bedroom private area, depending on availability.
Because the event attracts visitors from the surrounding region, booking in advance is recommended.
